FIRST ANNUAL NORTHEAST PEACE AND JUSTICE ACTION CONFERENCE

Keynote Address by Leslie Cagan, Co-chair of United for Peace and Justice

GOALS:

· To provide networking opportunities among local Peace and Justice groups;
· To form an informal NORTHEAST PEACE AND JUSTICE ACTION COALITION (NEPAJAC);
· To work out ways for the groups in such coalition to work together; and
· To explore a range of nonviolent ACTIONS we may wish to take

PARTICIPANTS:

Members and friends of local Peace and Justice groups, especially (but not exclusively) in NY, Western Mass., and Vermont.

PROGRAM AND PROCESS:

Discussion and planning break-out groups will be self-organized by the participants. Following the Keynote Address, we'll provide "open space" for anyone to volunteer to convene or facilitate a break-out session. The break-out groups will be determined in a participatory manner. Individual conveners will post brief descriptions of the issue they want addressed; topics may be intended to run through both break-out sessions or only one.

Participants will browse the posted topic descriptions. Conveners may have 1 minute to present or clarify their proposed topic. Participants give an indication of the topic group they intend to join. Conveners may cancel or combine groups in response to these indications. At a 4pm plenary session the scribes will report back to the whole conference on the discussion.

10:00 am - 10:45 am: Keynote Address
11:00 am - 12:15 pm: Organizing Topic Groups
12:15 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch Break ($6.00 box lunches if prepaid)
1:15 pm - 2:30 pm: First Breakout session.
2:30 pm - 3:45 pm: Second breakout Session
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Topic Group Reports and Wrap-up
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm: Informal Networking

COST AND REGISTRATION
Please pre-register. A simple box lunch can be supplied only to those who pre-register with a lunch fee of $6. A voluntary $10-25conference fee, to defray costs, may be paid with your pre-registration, or at the conference.
