PRESIDENT BUSH IS COMING TO ROCHESTER

- IT'S ROAD TRIP TIME!

President Bush's roadshow on Social Security is going to Rochester. There will be vans to go to Rochester.

WHERE:

The Liberty Pole Plaza in Rochester

WHEN:

TUESDAY MAY 24. The rally starts at 12:30 PM. There will be vans leaving from the CNY Labor Federation office - 404 Oak Street in Syracuse at 10:15 AM.

WHY:

President Bush will be speaking to students at Greece Athena High School Tuesday morning. Bush has been on a 60 city Social Security Destruction Tour and we are hearing from other communities that on the day of the event the security team locks down the area, inviting only the party faithful into the venue, while diverting the rest of the community into a nearby park (which will be fenced in). They call it the "free speech zone." It's really the "protest pen."

WHY THE LIBERTY POLE PLAZA?

We are also hearing from organizations that have been involved in protesting these Bush visits that the best way to get the word out about our opposition to Bush's privatization plan is to locate the demonstration somewhere else at a different time. This gives the media time to extricate itself from the locked down area and makes for a more powerful image.
